Side-scrolling Souls-like Death’s Gambit Out Now On PS4 and PC

Prepare to die in 2D as the Dark Souls-inspired Death’s Gambit slays console and computer-bound players today

Death's Gambit

White Rabbit’s brutal, side-scrolling Souls-like title Death’s Gambit is now available on PlayStation 4 and Steam, publisher Adult Swim Games announced today. Priced at $19.99, it’s now available to download from the PlayStation Store and Steam, and GOG.com.

Here’s a rundown of what to expect courtesy of the game’s publisher:

“Death’s Gambit raises you from the dead to wage war against the legendary immortals of Siradon, a vast, unforgiving land of dark forests, medieval ruins, frozen wastes and more. As an agent of Death itself, you’ll wield an arsenal of uniquely powerful weapons and abilities in wickedly challenging battles that demand quick thinking and tactics. Choose from seven playable classes, customize your champion with new gear and talents, and adapt a play style all your own to survive against the beasts, knights, horrors, and undying guardians of the realm that lay ahead.”

Much like From Software’s stable of punishing action-RPGs that inspired the game, Death’s Gambit’s world is littered with secrets to uncover, enigmatic characters to engage with, and incredibly challenging bosses to battle. And, once you’ve killed them for the first time,  they return in remastered form in the game’s Heroic Mode to test your mettle once again.

Death’s Gambit left a serious impression on the Hey Poor Player team after we had the chance to dive in during E3’s Media Indie Exchange. If you like soul-crushing platformers with plenty of style, this one should be right up your alley.

Check out the game’s gloomy world and crushing combat in the trailer below:

Frank has been the caffeine-fueled evil overlord of HeyPoorPlayer since 2008. He speaks loudly and carries a big stick to keep the staff of the HPP madhouse in check. A collector of all things that blip and beep, he has an extensive collection of retro consoles and arcade machines crammed into his house. Currently playing: Dodonpachi Dai-Ou-Jou (Arcade), Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (Switch), Neo Turf Masters (Neo Geo)
