Smash Ultimate Adds King K. Rool To Roster

Every Hero Needs A Rival

DK and Diddy react to the Smash Ultimate news

After living at the top of Smash Fighter polls for years, King K. Rool will finally get his day. In their Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct, Nintendo announced the Donkey Kong antagonist would be a playable fighter in the upcoming title.

Now that he’s in, K. Rool is clearly pulling out all the stops. He’s using moves and attacks from the Donkey Kong Country series, including Kaptain K. Rool’s blunderbuss and Baron K. Roolenstein’s propeller pack. In his final smash he shoots off a laser to destroy DK Island, like he would have done in Donkey Kong 64.

Watch the remarkably self-aware announcement video, and see K. Rool throw his weight around with the best of them:

The announcement was the last bit of news in a Nintendo Direct that lasted nearly twenty seven minutes. Although Nintendo had previously mentioned they did not want to add too many new fighters to Ultimate, they announced two original and three echo fighters today alone. The Direct even teased that there would me more fighters to come. But, they promised, all will be revealed before the game releases early this December.
