Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy XIV x Monster Hunter: World Collab

New battles, minions, and more

Final Fantasy XIV

SquareEnix has announced the beginning of the Final Fantasy XIVMonster Hunter: World collab event for FFXIV.

Starting today, players over Level 70 who have completed the “Stormblood” main scenario quest are able to immediately undertake the quest “The New King of the Block”, where they will face the iconic Monster Hunter monster Rathalos in the Great Hunt trial — an eight-player battle featuring unique battle mechanics inspired by those within Monster Hunter: World. Those hungry for an even bigger challenge can also attempt to tackle The Great Hunt (Extreme), a four-player version of the trial that includes additional challenges to overcome. These trials won’t be easy, but players who emerge victorious can expect to gain some nice rewards for their troubles, including:

  • Rathalos Armor Set – Equipment Inspired by Rathalos
  • New Minions – Poogie and Palico
  • New Mount – Ride Rathalos, the “King of the Skies” throughout Hydaelyn
  • New Furnishings – BBQ Spit

This new event comes as a part of today’s Patch 4.36, which also includes the next chapter in The Forbidden Land Eureka series, The Pagos Expedition, which allows players the chance to explore a brand-new area while they strengthen their Eureka weapons further, and obtain new rewards.

The Final Fantasy XIVMonster Hunter: World collab, as well as Patch 4.36 are now live for players to enjoy. Will you be hunting down a Rathalos? What other crossovers do you hope to see in the future? Let us know in the comments below!

Starting out with nothing more than a Game Boy and a copy of Donkey Kong Land, Kenny has happily been gaming for almost his entire life. Easily-excitable and a bit on the chatty side, Kenny has always been eager to share gaming-related thoughts, opinions, and news with others and has been doing so on Hey Poor Player since 2014 and has previously worked with both PKMNcast and SCATcast. Although his taste in gaming spreads across a wide number of companies and consoles, Kenny holds a particular fondness for Nintendo handheld consoles. He is also very proud of his amiibo collection. You can also find him on Twitter @SuperBayleef talking about video games and general nonsense. Some of his favorite games include Tetris Attack, Pokémon Black Version 2, The World Ends With You, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Yo-kai Watch, Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Kirby's Dreamland 3, Mega Man X, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (among many others).
