And yes, a translation patch is in the works.

Big news for Pokémon fans and game historians: a demo of Pokémon Gold from Spaceworld 1997 has leaked online. While we obviously won’t share how to obtain it, we can certainly discuss what’s in it. An anonymous user uploaded this elusive prototype early this morning, and the fine folks at The Cutting Room Floor have already begun cataloging its forbidden secrets; namely, all the cut Pokémon. See the full list for yourself below:
While there’s certainly some familiar faces such as Chikorita, Hoothoot and Donphan, most of these critters were either heavily redesigned or never made it into the final games. Early versions of Elekid, Octillery, Murkrow and Kingdra can clearly be spotted, while scrapped evolutions for Lickitung, Farfetch’d and another alternate evolution for Slowbro can be observed in all their glory, alongside a baby Paris. Meanwhile, check out all the original creations — the dog/lion thing with the mane made of balls? That freaky voodoo doll? The two-headed ghost? Maybe it’s for the best they never saw the light of day, but you can check out all the names and who’s related to who here.
Naturally, there’s more than just cut ‘mons: there’s the original world map, for starters (believe it or not, that’s Kanto at the bottom right!). There was also cut card and Picross mini-games, and hackers are currently experimenting with an in-game debug tool to unearth more goodies, such as unused moves and status effects. You can also look forward to a translation patch in the future.
