Shantae: Half Genie Hero “Ultimate Day One Edition” Makes Record-Breaking Sales

Ret 2 fly off the shelves

The Shantae series has always had a nice following, but it seems as though Sequin Land’s resident belly dancing half-genie is more popular than ever, if a new report released by publisher XSEED Games is anything to go by.

XSEED has announced that the physical “Ultimate Day One Editions” of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition — a re-release of HGH with all previously released DLC included — for the Nintendo Switch has been one of the fastest-selling limited editions in XSEED’s publishing history.

“We’re blown away at how eager XSEED, WayForward, and Shantae fans were to get their hands on this limited edition for the Switch,” said XSEED Games Executive Vice President Ken Berry. “WayForward have been great to partner with, and have produced a truly fantastic game! We’re all humbled and excited by the reception and sales for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, and are working hard to make sure we meet fan demand so that Shantae enthusiasts can have a physical version of the game to display in their collection.”

“This has been a long, wild, exciting ride from launching the Kickstarter through to this latest release,” said WayForward Shantae Director Matt Bozon. “Our fans have been incredible throughout this experience, and we couldn’t be happier with how everything has turned out for Shantae and our partnership with XSEED Games on the North American retail release. They came up with an amazing limited edition that really does justice to all the hard work our team put into Shantae’s latest adventure, and it has clearly been popular with all of our dedicated fans!”

Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition is now available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. And, if you’re interested in learning even more about the game, be sure to check out our Nintendo Switch Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition review!

Starting out with nothing more than a Game Boy and a copy of Donkey Kong Land, Kenny has happily been gaming for almost his entire life. Easily-excitable and a bit on the chatty side, Kenny has always been eager to share gaming-related thoughts, opinions, and news with others and has been doing so on Hey Poor Player since 2014 and has previously worked with both PKMNcast and SCATcast. Although his taste in gaming spreads across a wide number of companies and consoles, Kenny holds a particular fondness for Nintendo handheld consoles. He is also very proud of his amiibo collection. You can also find him on Twitter @SuperBayleef talking about video games and general nonsense. Some of his favorite games include Tetris Attack, Pokémon Black Version 2, The World Ends With You, Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, Yo-kai Watch, Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Kirby's Dreamland 3, Mega Man X, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (among many others).
