Pre-orders of standard edition to stay open for two weeks, Thimbleweed Park “Big Box” available today and limited to 3,000 copies worldwide
Indie publisher Limited Run Games today opened limited pre-orders for the retail version of Thimbleweed Park, the latest point-and-click adventure from LucasArts alums Ron Gilbert and Gary Winnick. In a major shift from the studio’s standard practice of serving up scarce copies on a first come, first served basis – of which these titles often sell out in minutes – LRG has decided to allow anyone who wishes to purchase a copy to pre-order one over the next two weeks. The company claims to be doing this to gauge fan interest in seeing Switch game production which, in turn, will hopefully result in larger product runs or more games being produced for Nintendo’s console/handheld hybrid.
Those interested in pre-ordering the Switch version of Thimbleweed Park can do so here. In addition to the $34.99 standard edition version of the game, LRG has also made available a limited number of “big box” special edition copies which will be made available tonight at 6PM EST. The big box version is limited to 3,000 copies worldwide and is priced at $64.99. Due to the long production time of Switch cartridges, the game isn’t expected to ship until early July, 2018.
I scored Thimbleweed Park a 4.5/5 in my review when it released exactly a year ago today saying: “If you’ve got a soft spot for LucasArts’ catalog of point-and-click adventures, you really owe it to yourself to pick up Thimbleweed Park. While plenty of games rely on retro-style aesthetics to tug at the heartstrings of players who cut their teeth on the hits of the 1980’s, developer Terrible Toybox have used their experience as industry veterans to craft a modern masterpiece that keeps its heart firmly planted in the genre’s golden era.”
