After thirteen years, it’s finally happened: Makoto Yukimura’s masterpiece manga Vinland Saga will receive an anime adaption courtesy of Wit Studio. The same folks behind Attack on Titan and The Ancient Magus’ Bride, no information was given on a release date, but it has been confirmed it’ll air on TV in Japan while Amazon Prime holds exclusive streaming rights for both Japan and overseas. To celebrate the occasion, Yukimura provided the following illustration below:
Beginning in 2005, Vinland Saga follows the saga of Thorfinn, a youth who dedicates his life to revenge after his father’s murder by vikings. As he battles his way throughout the lands and seas of Europe, tales of a promised land named Vinland echo a desire for pacifism, but can a decade of bloodshed truly be redeemed?
On a sidenote, we will be providing reviews of Kodansha USA’s release of Vinland Saga beginning with Volume 10’s release this June. An omnibus release, as the series is serialized monthly in Japan, such releases will likely be annual from hereon., so please look forward to them.
