10 Video Games That Let You Play As a Lesbian or Bisexual Woman

On International Women’s Day let’s look at some very important game protagonists.

International Women's Day

Emily Kaldwin punched me in the face once and made me gay – it was awesome.

Happy International Women’s Day! Today is a day where women are celebrated everywhere even if they deserve to be celebrated each and every single day, but hey, that’s just me being plain ol’ bitter. That aside though, International Women’s Day is particularly important to me and here’s why:

It’s been a few years since I’ve come out that scary old closet, but I always remember the date. It brings a smile on my face to know how far I’ve come, and a large part of it is due to video games and the continuous development of diversity within them. We’ve still got a long way to go, but as I was writing this I realized that I felt happy, happy to see myself in characters that I never dreamed I would be able to. To me, playing a character who I can identify with is absolutely everything. Some might not feel that way, but I know a lot of people feel the way I do too.

And that’s okay. Because video games are cool and we like to get ourselves lost in them, so why shouldn’t we be able to relate to something that we feel is a part of us?

So, my bisexual and lesbian sisters, this list is for you. I present to you: 10 Video Games That Let You Play as a Lesbian or Bisexual Woman.

Aimee Hart
When not sleeping (which is...a lot of the time), Aimee is writing up a storm for her latest ideas. Hailing from the city Birmingham, she's had a love for video games since playing Star Wars Episode 1: Racer on the PC with her trusty joystick! Since then she's developed a firm love for RPGs and JRPGs and considers them her second love, straight after dogs. Her favourite games are: Tales of Berseria, Dragon Age II (don't judge!), Final Fantasy X and Pyre. You can hear her ramble about them @honhonitsaimee on Twitter.

No problem. <3 Thank YOU for the comment!

Aimee you’re trash and trash like you that pushes the gay agenda should be eradicated along with the mentally disturbed sicko trash you support.

        • Aimee

Oh shit Sheen, didn’t you hear? Next week on the gay agenda we’re going into schools to talk about our feelings. Then we’ll be moving onto pride of course, and uh, probably gonna talk to some news media about being gay. Gotta pass that along and all.

Though I’ve gotta admit, your comment directly goes against our comment policy. As Queen Gay I may just have to use my massive ban hammer and delete it because it promotes hate speech.

You haven’t yet though. I hope the representation of LGBT continues to improve, and I hope I can live long enough to play complex stories in games.

Love this list! Thank you so much! I played Before the Storm first and zomg it has all the feels! Just about to finish “Prey.” I was shaking my head at first but am almost done and love it. Your list got me hooked on console gamung. I look forward to the next iteration! 🙂

It’s just what I was looking for. Thank you.

Why is there even a gay agenda in video games? I would think money alone would deter creators from going down that road. Let’s face it, a gay will play any game really as long as it’s interesting no matter who the characters are. Many straight players will not download or play a game that is known to feature LGBTREIIHG characters. Disagree with that all you want that’s the facts. I was just about to load download Life is Strange but after reading about it….nope! Mistakenly call me homophobic all you want I don’t give a rat’s ass.

Miss Aimee, I am reaching out to Female gaming leaders and hope that you will find my cause worthy.
“What makes a the male body worth more respect than the female form?”
Hi, I’m posting this trying to reach out my fellow gamer chicks. To express my admiration and seek out support for what may seem trivial but is simply a message to the game companies.
What was once a male dominated field of entertainment and competition is fast becoming a more even field. And its because of that growing interest among women that I would like to send a message to the game companies about equal aesthetics i the games. We all know the jokes and memes about how the same armor that looks bad *ss on guys is instantly turned into metal bikinis on the females. And while i have no illusions that this will ever change I have an idea of how we can push for a more even objectification of the genders.
In FF14 online, one of the few that offers some fun glamours to make guys look as skimpy as the girls, there is a glaring inconsistency that has been debated on forums and even requested over the last couple years. That would be that the male game sprites are little more the eunuchs when dressed in the skimpier outfits. Yoshida and his team, since day one, has gone out of their way to provide breast size sliders and even program jiggling in the breasts when the sprite moves and jumps. What makes the male body deserve more respect than the female form? Even when pressed about the psychical incongruity and if he would ever change it he responds with an adamant no saying he doesn’t feel like redesigning 2000 gears sets to include a more realistic bulge in the male outfits. This is ridiculous and cheap excuse since, 1 if he had listened to the requests and posts of his gaming base, of which not just female but many males for one reason or another have asked for a less castrated appearance, he could have been programming the outfits since heavens ward to be more realistically balanced.
    2. Even if he just focused only on the glamour sets and released new glamour sets the only things your changing is the leg slot items which wouldn’t take much. and finally…
    3. There are tons of talented programmers who have made mods out there, not talking about the xxx ones, who have made amazing adjustments to the body forms improving texture, color, and appearance that could easily be bought by SE and implemented. I’m sure any programmer would be overjoyed to have their name included in the credits of the game to pad their resume. all companies use contractors this would be no difference.
I’ve heard it said that one of the reasons for their male forms looking like tucked hopefuls for the next season of Ru Pauls drag race is because of cultural ideology of modesty. This would be a good argument if it were not for the fact that SE is a Japanese company and in Japan they have an annual festival called KANAMARA MATSURI which means “Festival of the steel phallus” I’m serious, look it up. It is a festival held every year to celebrate the Penis of which they erect, pun unintended, Penis effigies, and make penis shaped edibles of which if you look up the festival you can find girls and even children disturbingly sucking on penis shaped suckers which are anatomically correct. So the idea that Yoshida and SE will not provide their male sprites with a more realistic package, cause we all know men have bulges this isn’t an obscene thing its just a reality, out of some cultural idea of propriety is simply crap.
And finally my reason for messaging you. I am asking for the leaders of the female gaming world such as yourself to help me send a message to the gaming companies. starting with ff14 who at least acknowledges, a little, that men in skimpy outfits is fun. I’m asking your help to reach your audience who might be playing ff14 to submit in-game feed back on the matter and participate in forum posts. But this is merely a prelude that is doomed to fail because they will ultimately ignore us as they have the last few years. The real demonstration is much more powerful.
If your willing, I would like your help to organize a one month Log out. For all female players, and male players who support the movement, to suspend their accounts for one month. In one month SE will loose millions. In one month SE will be forced to acknowledged their customers. In one month we can show that the gamer should never be ignored because We are the game. Without the gamer there is no Game. And even more important that Female Gamers, are just as important and the way we are represented in the game deserves as much respect and or equal treatment. If they are going to portray our avatars as skimpily dressed jug jiggling sex pots then the men should be just as objectified. We deserve and should demand equal respect.
I thank you for your time and while I’m probably setting myself up for ridicule and scorn by those who may think me stupid or ridiculous, There is no shame in trying to stand up for ones beliefs. And there is no failure in trying to fight even if I fail. There is only shame in never trying to do something at all.
    Sincerely,
    Angelina.
