Dr. Stone, a Weekly Shonen Jump manga written by Riichiro Inagaki (Eyeshield 21) and illustrated by Boichi (Sun-Ken Rock), will finally see an American release outside of VIZ Media’s digital Weekly Shonen Jump. According to an announcement from ICv2’s Manga Week, Volume 1 is set for launch this September at the price of $9.99, with more volumes to follow.
Beginning in March 2016, Dr. Stone was introduced via unprecedented six-series-debut for the Japanese manga anthology, and was one of three successful “Jump Starts” chosen by fans to run in the American shonen (the other two being romcom We Never Learn and golfing manga RobotxLaserbeam). Taking place in a post-apocalyptic Earth where the human population has turned to stone, high school genius Senku and brawny idiot Taiju miraculously break free after a millennia-long stone hibernation and work together to find a cure for mankind. Paired with Inagaki’s gripping storytelling, Boichi’s rich art and some scientific consultation Kurare Raku, the series continues to enthrall readers across the world.
