The wait is over, game music fans, for the sixth Video Games Live album Kickstarter is here! Brought to you by show creator Tommy Tallarico (composer of Earthworm Jim and many more beloved games), Video Games Live: Level 6 opens with seven confirmed arrangements, a stretch goal of $150,000, and pledge rewards up to $10,000 donations. Several of the confirmed arrangements even have rough demo tracks for your listening pleasure, but the full list can be found below:
Final Fantasy X (“To Zanarkand”)
Pokémon (“Gotta Catch ‘Em All”; yes, that’s the beloved cartoon opening, with original singer Jason Paige)
EarthBound (Lyrics sung by Wayne Strange and an unannounced Italian Opera singer)
Undertale (Collaboration with creator/composer Toby Fox)
Tomb Raider (Arrangement written by original composer Nathan McCree)
Destiny (“The Union”; Arrangement/Recording input by original composer Marty O’Donnell)
Metal Gear Solid: (“Main Theme”/”Encounter”, a classic VGL suite that’s finally making its first album appearance)
The final list of arrangements is only set to grow, with at least 10 tracks planned for the album and potentially more should the Kickstarter hit its stretch goals. At the project’s end, a survey will be sent for backers to decide the final setlist, with the candidates including Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Hearthstone, Suikoden II, Castlevania (“Bloody Tears”), Fire Emblem, a Classic Arcade Medley, Heroes of Might & Magic, Katamari Damacy, Secret/Legend of Mana, Shenmue, Star Fox, Guilty Gear, Kingdom Hearts II (“Sanctuary”), Nier: Automata, Kirby, Cuphead, Ori & The Blind Forest, Super Mario Bros. 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
Pledge rewards for this year include a Donkey Kong Country piano album (arranged by Trevor Alan Gomes), recorded messages from Veronica Taylor (the original voice of Pokemon’s Ash Ketchum), conductor’s scores for various arrangements, and even a “Making Of” Level 6 documentary describing the origins and arrangement processes behind every included song.
There are currently 59 days left for the Kickstarter, with rapidly growing pledges placing it at $30,000 needed for its initial goal. Will you be backing the Video Games Live: Level 6 Kickstarter? Let us know in the comments below!
