EarthBound Funko Pop Report Confuses Funko Pop, Media And Fans Alike

So, uh…is it happening or not?

Good news: after twenty years, the best game ever SNES classic EarthBound will finally be merchandised in the West via Funko Pop figures! Or…maybe not? After a company infographic popped up displaying countless brands, the EarthBound logo was observed among the many names. Naturally, this meant Ness and the gang would be receiving big-headed figures with oversized-onyx pupils, but just after the gaming media began reporting it…

Well, this is awkward.

So is Funko making EarthBound figures or not? A closer look at the infographic implies that may not be the case: there’s an emphasis on companies and licensors as opposed to actual franchises (Disney, Bandai and Cartoon Network with the occasional Sesame Street and Astro Boy), and it’s possible Funko got the SNES EarthBound logo mixed up with EarthBound Brands, a licensing company. Given Funko’s Twitter response, this is probably the case.

In other words, unless you live in Japan, you’ll have to stick to importing and auction sites for all your EarthBound and Mother merchandise. Still, it’d be nice to have Western EarthBound stuff that isn’t just a ruler
