That’s the first game, dood!
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Disgaea, developer Nippon Ichi announced in a stream this morning that the original Disgaea: Hour of Darkness would be getting an HD remake. Slated for a Summer 2018 release in Japan, no supporting consoles were given, but as Disgaea 5 launched for PlayStation 4 and Switch, we can guess it’ll head to those two consoles.
Originally launching for PlayStation 2 in 2003, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness is a cult-hit strategy series known for its deep battle system and quirky cast. The game also came to PSP (under the name Afternoon of Darkness, which included a multiplayer mode and an alternate story featuring Etna), DS (which featured exclusive characters), and PC (a bug-ridden release that had to be patched extensively). The game’s success brought about four sequels that have sold over three million units, several spin-offs featuring the Prinny characters, and an anime adaption of the first game in 2006.
