Return To The World Of Dragon Age With The Newest Book ‘Hard In Hightown’

Hard In Hightown Is The Crime Noir You Need In Your Life!

Hard in Hightown

The most lovable dwarf to ever exist has finally landed that publishing deal he always deserved!

A great man once said “there’s power in stories. That’s all history is: the best tales. The ones that last. Might as well be mine.”

That man was a dwarf named Varric Tethras. A storyteller, a rogue, Hawke’s best friend and occasionally an unwelcome tag-a-long. Varric has been part of Dragon Age’s exciting world since Dragon Age II’s release back in 2011, and fans have never, ever have had enough of him (one day we’ll romance him, one day…)

So Dragon Age and Varric fans alike, rejoice!  Because our favourite dwarf is coming back to tell the story that has caused Aveline Vallen trouble in the barracks since 9:31 Dragon: a noir novella known as Hard In Hightown.

Written by Varric Tethras himself, along with the help of his best human (after Hawke, of course) Mary Kirby, this tells the story of a disgruntled guardsman named Donnen Brennokovic.

The book is available for pre-order from Amazon as well as Barnes and Noble. The listing on these pages describe the books’ summary:

Prolific dwarven author and heroic companion of the Dragon Age games, Varric Tethras brings us the collected edition of his breakthrough crime-noir drama, Hard in Hightown (with help from his trusted human confidante, Mary Kirby)! This volume is beautifully illustrated by Stefano Martino, Alvaro Sarraseca, Andres Ponce, and Ricardo German Ponce Torres, with a painted cover by E.M. Gist!

Twenty years of patrols have chiseled each and every stone of the Kirkwall streets into city guardsmen Donnen Brennokovic. Weary and weathered, Donnen is paired with a recruit so green he might as well have leaves growing out of his armor. When the mismatched pair discover a dead magistrate bleeding out on the flagstones, they’re caught up in a clash between a shadowy organization known only as the Executors and a secretive group of Chantry agents–all over some ancient artifact.

As a huge Dragon Age fan and Mary Kirby’s work, to me, this can only mean great things!  I’m incredibly excited to dive back into the world I love, as well as discover new things about the characters I adore. Regardless of whether you’re a fan of Dragon Age or not, I believe Hard in Hightown will be a must-read for those who love the crime noir genre!

If you want to hear more information about Hard in Hightown and how it came to be, I was lucky enough to interview Mary Kirby about the upcoming novel.  You can access that interview here.

Hard In Hightown is set to come out on July 31st, 2018.
