A New Visual Novel Deals With Death
One of the joys of the internet and social media is that it allows people to create and share their art with us all. With video games being, at least in my opinion, the biggest new art form of our time, it’s amazing to see something small and beautiful surface. For Emery is a shining example of this!
For Emery is an interactive visual novel for PC that tackles the deep issue of death in a heartfelt, touching manner. It follows the story of two circus artists, Germaine and Emery. After Emery’s sudden death we follow Germaine’s five stages of grief.
The description of the game, as listed on Game Jolt, reads:
“How do you cope with the death of a close friend? Would you do whatever it takes to bring someone you love back to life? Follow Germaine through the five stages of grief in this point and click interactive novel to find out if the Gilgamesh-inspired feat can be pulled off.”
For Emery’s artwork is hand drawn and devastatingly beautiful, shown in the trailer, uploaded to YouTube early last month. Developer Sanud admits that they are “a one-person team working on narrative driven experiences” – which is pretty amazing!
An early access version of For Emery is available now on Game Jolt for just one dollar and well worth a look.
