New Yu Yu Hakusho Original Animation Arriving Next October

25th Anniversary, ahoy!
yu yu hakusho

Yu Yu Hakusho, a beloved anime/manga classic, will be returning via an original animation via the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray releases next year in Japan. Divided into four sets, the animation will be included in the fourth and final set (covering the Demon World arc) arriving October 28th, 2018. The other three sets include the Spirit Detective arc (July 27), the Dark Tournament arc (August 28), and the Chapter Black arc (September 26).

Studio Pierrot, which was behind the original 112-episode anime, is behind this new animation. However, the exact contents and length of this project remain unknown. Given the wording of the original reports, this is most likely some sort of OVA, although it’s not explicitly confirmed.

FUNimation had previously released Yu Yu Hakusho in Blu-ray for American release in 2011, but it remains unknown whether this particular set or even the new animation will come to Western shores.
