Hoping for more Pixar representation than just Toy Story for Kingdom Hearts 3? You might be getting your wish: citing an unnamed source, a user at ResetERA forums received two screenshots depicting what’s very clearly a Monsters Inc. world for Sora’s 2018 adventure. Grab your detective tools as you check out the pics below:
Pretty damning evidence, if we say so ourselves: the work put into Sora and Co.’s “Monster” forms as well as the unexpected appearance of Birth by Sleep‘s Unversed (right down to a brand new boss monster) seem far too professional to dismiss. Eagle-eyed readers may point out the icons for Sora, Donald and Goofy use their regular designs, but a closer look reveals the kanji for “temporary” is placed next to Donald and Goofy. As these are obviously work-in-process shots, it’s very likely they simply hadn’t finalized the icon design for the trio’s new forms, as many other Japanese games go through similar processes; for example, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U reused certain Super Smash Bros. Brawl assets, such as that game’s character renders for player stock icons, in pre-release footage and whatnot.
Still, this leak isn’t without its pratfalls: a third screenshot supplied to the original poster indicated a Frozen world, but was quickly debunked upon being proven it was a still from the 2013 movie. While it doesn’t entirely dismiss this rumor, that’s still pretty suspect. Regardless, we’ll keep you updated on whether or not James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski are a lock for Kingdom Hearts 3.
