For any Sailor Moon fans planning on attending France’s Japonismes 2018 event, you’ll be happy to learn a live-action Sailor Moon performance is in the works. According to Anime News Network, not much about the show has been detailed, but it will feature singing and dancing alongside video footage.
To clarify, Japonismes 2018 isn’t some three-day convention; in fact, it’s a eight-month exposition taking place between July 2018 and February 2019! Celebrating the 160-year relationship between France and Japan, this event will take place within Paris and celebrates all elements of Japanese culture, be they kabuki performances, tea ceremonies, ikebana flower arrangement, and yes, Hatsune Miku.
Believe it or not, while Sailor Moon has been adapted for Japanese musicals and stage plays, this isn’t the first time the series has crossed paths with Western live-action: DiC actually created a live-action reenactment of the “Sailor Says” anime segments, and Saban pitched a live-action/animated hybrid for the series that…well, just see for yourself. Needless to say, we think Japonismes’ effort will be more professional than those two.
