Last Minute Nerdy Halloween Costumes That Don’t Suck

2 | Rick and (or) Morty

Halloween Costumes

Arguably a costume that everyone will be pulling off this year, why not just go with the flow and be everyone’s favorite drunk grandpa? Unless you want to go all out as Pickle Rick, the only thing you’ll likely need to purchase is a lab coat and a flask. If you want to go the Morty route, worst case scenario is you’ll need a plain yellow shirt. Then just say “oh geez” all night and you’re golden. Add an eye patch for some Evil Morty flair, even!

Summer would also be recognizable with a pink tank top and white pants, though possibly not ideal for everyone as a costume this time of year. Furthermore, a top hat and a bald cap will give you an ace Mr. Poopy Butthole costume! Some blue body paint and a headband with foam could give you a really good Unity cosplay (any of those aliens would likely do just fine).

Want to take an extra step? Be Ants-In-Your-Eyes Johnson, or one of the Ball Fondlers from the inter-dimensional cable episodes. There’s also Sleepy Gary from the Total Rickall episode if you want to give that a shot, but I don’t know too many places that sell sleeping caps these days.

Ultimately, anyone from the Smith family or Rick will be your easiest choice in the matter. I left Jerry and Beth out because, outside of some good acting, they’re just a little too normal looking. Also, good luck finding Jerry’s polo.

3 | Mario or Luigi

Halloween Costumes

Probably about the easiest thing you could dress up as any year. A pair of overalls, a red or green shirt, and a hat. The hat will likely be the hardest part, but I see generic ones at costume shops all the time. Throw in the white gloves if you want, but since this is a guide on cheap costumes it’s not recommended or even a necessity. They’ll just get dirty and not be usable again next time anyway.

Obviously there are variations of Mario and Luigi that could be utilized if you still feel like spicing up your costume. Remember though, you’ll be recognizable by just about everyone in your certified plumber’s garb. You don’t need to do anything else, but the option is yours. Want a Doctor Mario? Go for it! Get a red backpack and a vacuum hose and you could even be Luigi from Luigi’s Mansion!

Again, the choices are yours. There’s countless variations on these iconic gaming characters, so you can go nuts. Just remember, it’s not necessary.

Beth Meadows
A graduate of Full Sail University in the field of Game Design, Beth currently works at a small game development studio as a QA Engineer (a fancy name for a QA Tester - which means she plays video games for a living). Beth is obsessed with Heroclix and loves all things BioWare. In her spare time she enjoys gaming, reading, writing, and playing with her dogs (yes, she's a crazy dog mom). She's also quite a big fan of sleeping and eating and is trying to figure out how to combine these abilities.
