Remember that Mega Man movie that was confirmed a couple months ago? Yeah, they’re working on the script now. In an interview with Collider, producer Masi Oka confirmed they’ve just started work on the script for the movie. Assuring that the directors (Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who were previously behind the 2010 Catfish documentary) are big fans of the original games, Mr. Oka implied the story might be “lighter” than the source material. Whatever that means, as the original Mega Man games were always light-hearted affairs.
As previously reported, 20th Century Fox had been attempting to grab movie rights for Capcom’s Blue Bomber and finally acquired the rights this year. Chernin Entertainment, which had previously filmed War for the Planet of the Apes, will be producing the movie. Mr. Oka had previously been reported to work on the project, but with the new Death Note movie under his resume, things may not be looking so hot: it wasn’t a hit with fans, and it currently holds a “rotten” score on Rotten Tomatoes with a 42% rating.
