Tried to nab a SNES Classic from GameStop? If you were successful, count yourself lucky: they sold out in approximately eight minutes! GameStop’s Senior Marketing Director, Eric Bright, spoke with Forbes on the elusive Super Nintendo Classic Edition, stating how he believes it’s already in higher demand than last year’s NES Classic! As Forbes points out, if you still think Nintendo’s on-track to produce and distribute more systems than last time, you might want to set back your expectations…
Mr. Bright went on to say that while further pre-orders for the much-anticipated SNES Classic isn’t completely out of the question, the same goes for Nintendo shipping out more units. At the very least, GameStop is expected to have more units outside of those pre-orders. The pervasive problem with scalpers utilizing bots to snatch up orders faster than actual users has also been acknowledged, and Mr. Bright has confirmed GameStop’s IT team is focusing on slowing their efforts.
Given how poorly Nintendo has been handling the pre-order situation, we advise readers to ask their local game retailers to check the fabled system’s status or keep their eyes glued to any and all online retailers.
