It’s been away for a while, but the craziest shooter in space is still on its way.
The folks over at Grip Digital and Terrible Posture Games have been quiet for a while. It’s understandable, though. After all, it’s quiet out there in space. First-person bullet hell survivor-shooter Mothergunship impressed us back at PAX East, and we’ve been waiting with twitchy trigger fingers to hear more ever since. Now, more has come to be found. With a little more humor and narrative than before, a new Mothergunship trailer has touched down on Earth from the depths of the cosmos.
Mothergunship‘s premise is as simple as it is awesome. That is to say, of course, that it’s a lot of both. The game is a first-person shooter that hops between standard guns and alien weaponry. It’s designed more like a bullet-hell shoot-’em-up title, though. Intricate projectile paths and enemy placements are the things to know, and the knowing is the key to surviving as you progress.
The other big star of the show is weapon customization. Back when we talked to a representative for the game at PAX East, we were told that weapon customization follows a basic rule. As long as the gun barrels face forward, anything goes. The trailer depicts a whole ring of gun barrels arranged to border the entire screen. This is just one of any number of examples of what kinds of parts you can stick into other parts of your guns, to augment their strength and add different abilities.
Mothergunship has no official release date set as of yet, but the game will show itself at Gamescom and PAX West. The game is set to hit PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One sometime in early 2018. Craft, shoot, and try for the love of the stars not to die.
