Better the devil hunter you know!
The animated intro trailer for Battle Chasers: Nightwar – from Powerhouse Animation (Netflix’s Castlevania) – showcases new hero Alumon, the edgy, morally dubious devil hunter. Once a member of a sacred order of monster hunters, Alumon has now fallen on hard times. After being banished from the order, he now operates alone as bounty hunter, taking contracts and doing odd jobs for money, from exorcisms and assassinations if the job requires it (and sometimes even if it doesn’t).
Though Alumon possesses the traditional magic and light-based abilities of the Battle Priests of his order, he has taken his study of the dark arts to a whole new level. Being a bit on the wild side, many of his spells and abilities call upon dark magic, even harming himself as he attacks others. Meddling with these dark powers has warped Alumon’s appearance, so he is easily recognized by his frost white hair and serpentine eyes. Understandably, Alumon usually wears a mask. In the trailer, you can see him writing asian-styled characters before his face, eith the subsequent spell projecting a wave of force.
The new Battle Chasers: Nightwar video will also serve as the animated introduction for the game and was inspired by title sequences of TV classic series from the 1980s, like Thundercats, Silverhawks and Defenders of the Earth. Even with this inspiration, there’s definitely some anime stylings to it. You can hear some of the goofy 80’s cartoon inspiration in the catchphrase: “Battle Chasers, ho!”
Battle Chasers: Nightwar is slated for release on PC and Mac, both on Steam and DRM-free on GoG, as well as Xbox One and PS4. You can check out the games’ kickstarter page here for more info. Check out the new trailer below!
