Limited Run Games’ 8k print of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap gets gobbled up faster than you can say Mecha Dragon
Orders for Limited Run Games‘ physical release of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap opened up at 10AM EST this morning. And by 10:02AM, they were all gone, leaving fans who were hoping to get their mitts on the game — of which there were only 3,000 pieces made available — staring at their monitors in disbelief at the whirlwind speed at which they were consumed.
While games selling out within minutes is hardly unheard of for those (myself included) who collect Limited Run Games’ small-batch releases, which are exclusively sold in single-print runs, the speed at which the Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap Standard Edition (limited to 5,000 pieces) and Collector’s Edition (limited to 3,000 pieces) packages were gobbled up was nothing short of astounding. That said, if you managed to get yourself a copy, pat yourself on the back. Your lightning-fast fingers saved you a lot of trouble at the hands on scalpers in the future, who’re doubtlessly lining up to unload their copies for a healthy profit on eBay.
And this was just the trial run. Next Friday, August 11, pre-orders will be opening for Limited Run Games’ physical release of Night Trap, developer Screaming Villains remastered port of the controversial full motion video game that helped shape the ESRB as we know it today. Given the game’s already cult status and place in video game history, I have little doubt next week will be a similar affair when the game’s 8,000 copies go on sale.
So, were you one of the lucky Wonder Boy fans who got their hands on a copy of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap today? Furthermore, will you be fighting the good fight to get a copy of Night Trap next week? Be sure to sound off in the comments section and let us know.
