Japan’s Kirby concert, meant to celebrate his 25th anniversary, is now finally available to a worldwide audience via Japanese streaming service NicoNico! However, you only have a limited time to watch it, and even less time to obtain tickets: said tickets are available only through August 13th, and the stream itself is up only until August 20th.
Can’t figure out how to watch it? No need to fear: Perfectly Nintendo has a handy-dandy guide on how to nab a ticket. However, bear in mind you will have to lay down some cash if you don’t already have NicoNico Points; as this concert requires 2500 points to watch, you’ll have to lay down approximately $22.
Having watched through the concert in its entirety, however, I can say it’s more than worth the price. This final orchestral performance, which played at Tokyo’s Bunkamura Orchard Hall, plays aa veritable host of suites from such beloved Kirby games such as Kirby’s Adventure, Kirby Super Star, Kirby: Planet Robobot, and much more. Special guests like all five Kirby composers (Jun Ishikawa, Hirokazu Ando, Tadashi Ikegami, Shogo Sakai and Megumi Ohara) and Kirby’s VA Makiko Ohmoto drop by, and that’s not even mentioning the most important guest of all: Kirby himself! Voiced in all his adorable glory by Ohmoto, he engages in too-cute-for-words antics you don’t want to miss, with the entire hall even singing Happy Birthday to him! (For reference, this goes down before the Super Star suite)
Sadly, Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai didn’t make the show, but the development stories he shared during the first concert are definitely worth a look.
