Say it ain’t so!
Dataminers analyzing Wii U’s newest firmware update have found evidence the Miiverse service will be ending soon. Said evidence was uncovered by Twitter user Shiny Quagsire, who found the following message:
“The Miiverse service has ended. Miiverse and any software features that make use of Miiverse are now unavailable.”
A social media platform for Wii U and 3DS, Miiverse was not only a service used to upload screenshots and commentary, but was implemented into both systems’ software as online attractions, be it tongue-in-cheek messages for the Miiverse stage in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U or snapshots in bottles in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD. Sadly, it appears these features will become defunct very soon alongside Miiverse itself, although the exact date is unknown. In the meantime, we suggest saving any screenshots you uploaded onto the service!
While Miiverse’s closure was expected since it wasn’t carried over to Switch, it’s nonetheless a bummer to see it go. Who could forget the tragic romance between Allan and Nicole? Or Pauly’s first trip through Super Metroid? Or all the wacky requests and observations for Masahiro Sakurai‘s daily updates for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS?
