Nidhogg 2 clashes swords on Steam & PC on August 15th
Nidhogg 2, the sequel to Messhof’s cult classic 2014 game of daring pixelated dueling, is coming to PC and PS4 on August 15th, the developer announced today in a press release. Those hoping to secure a copy early can do so next week when PS4 pre-orders kick off July 18th.
Right from the outset it’s plain to see that Nidhogg 2 is much more visually striking than its minimalist predecessor. The game has received a graphical upgrade that looks more akin to the 16-bit era, rather than its blocky, Atari-inspired roots. The sequel also manages to incorporate much more customization this time around, allowing fledgling fencers to mix-and-match a variety of clothing and body parts to bring their ideal swordsman (or swordswoman) to life.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Messhof’s Creative Director & Co-Founder Mark Essen explained Nidhogg 2’s dramatic shift in visual style saying, “We were proud of the original Nidhogg’s visual style, but that’s not to say we weren’t a bit surprised by how well the chunky, featureless pixels were received. We were pushing the limits of old-school aesthetics, after all. What many people didn’t realize was that Nidhogg’s style actually grew out of practicality more than some daring vision.”
