Nintendo reveals new information on their new upcoming online service
Nintendo has been working on an exclusive online service for the Switch for a while now, and it looks like the’re ready to finally shed some light on it. Today Nintendo updated their official Switch site, laying out some concrete details on the console’s online service. Read on to see what Nintendo has in store for its fans for the rest of this year, as well as 2018 and beyond.
Nintendo Switch Online Play
Nintendo’s new Nintendo Switch Online program will be free for all Switch owners for the rest of the year. Players will be able to play compatable co-op and competitive games online with others simply by signing in with their Nintendo Account. Starting in 2018, Nintendo Switch Online will become a paid service, and will require a subscription fee. So far, Nintendo has confirmed that they will be selling 1-month, 3-month, and 12-month memberships for $3.99. $7.99, and $19.99 respectively.
Nintendo also plans to add several new Nintendo Switch Online features in 2018. Beginning next year, players will be able to make use of a dedicated “smart device app” that will connect to their Nintendo Switch, allowing them to “play online, set appointments, and chat with friends during online matches in compatible games” from the app.
Players will also be able to download a number of classic titles, including Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight, and Dr. Mario. These titles have been upgraded and will feature online play. Potential eShop discounts may also be in the works for paid Nintendo Switch Online members.
