The Witcher Series Coming to Netflix

The Witcher Comes To a Whole New Realm of Media

The Witcher

With a slew of novels and three successful games, it may come as little surprise that The Witcher is now being developed and produced as an English series soon to appear on Netflix.

Eight novels currently make up what is known exclusively as The Witcher Saga. Naturally, it centers on a group of supernatural hunters know as “witchers”.  From young ages, these soldiers train to battle deadly monsters. The central character in both the novels and the video games is a man known as Geralt.

“Andrzej Sapkowski has created a rich and memorable world, at once magical and familiar,” said Netflix Vice President. “We couldn’t be more excited about bringing The Witcher saga to Netflix members around the world.”Sapkowski himself had this much to say: “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing. I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”

Sapkowski will be the creative consultant on the series. Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, will be executive producers, along with Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko from the Polish production and visual effects company Platige Image.

The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” said Sean Daniel and Jason Brown. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

With production not having started yet, it’s hard to say when The Witcher fans can expect to see anything. Given the success of Netflix’s original shows however, it can be expected that our expectations will be met, however high.
