Anyone up for a Global Testpunch?
While the three remaining characters were leaked hours before the presentation, the ARMS Direct still had plenty more surprises up its sleeve. Various game modes, global trial demos and announcements of DLC were showcased for next month’s stretchy Switch fighter, all ample content that you can see for yourself below.
Check out the game’s kooky story: apparently no one in the world of ARMS knows why certain individuals possess stretchy appendages, but they’re too fascinated by their boxing matches to figure out why. Perhaps there’s in-game clues like Splatoon‘s Sunken Scrolls?
Anyway, rounding out the game’s 10-fighter roster are Kid Cobra (a serpent-based fighter who unleashes a charged dash), Byte and Barq (a two-in-one robo duo, with Barq the dog supporting Byte) and Twinbelle (a movie star who brawls not with her arms, but her hair!). The roster may seem a tad paltry now, but free downloadable fighters have been confirmed alongside stages and equippable ARMS. In the meantime, you’ll want to memorize the seven different attributes for equippable arms: fire, electricity, wind, stun, explosion and blind. Remember these attributes kick in only during charged moves, and the weight of each arm can matter in everything from speed (heavy arms are slow) to blocking (performed if your arm is of the same weight or heavier than your opponent’s).
A number of exciting game modes were also revealed, including Team Fight (featuring two-vs-two matches; friendly fire is turned on, so watch out!), V-ball (a volleyball-esque sport involving an exploding ball), Hoops (a hysterical take on basketball where you slam each other into hoops), Skillshot (break as many targets as possible) and 1-on-100 (can you defeat 100 enemies in a row?). Naturally, a training mode is included, as well as online compatibility featuring Party Matches and Ranked Matches.
Like Splatoon 2 before it, one-hour Global Testpunches will be held before the game’s June 16th launch. The times are as follows:
May 26: 5:00 PM PT
May 27: 5:oo AM PT, 11:00 AM PT, 5:00 PM PT

June 2: 5:00 PM PT
