Divinity: Original Sin 2 Introduces Game Master Mode

Become your own Game Master.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 revealed its Game Master mode earlier today, the final stretch goal from its highly successful Kickstarter campaign. This mode is design to give players the freedom to create their own campaign using pre-existing maps, set pieces, and character models. These encounters will be built to accommodate four players and their game master. The GM will get the final say whether rolls end in success or failure—just like a real-life tabletop adventure.

Game masters can create dialogue trees and skill checks through Divinity: Original Sin 2’s vignettes system. When diplomacy breaks down, the Game Master mode can be readily equipped for a fight. GMs can allow NPCs to do battle automatically or take direct control of enemies for a more specialized encounter. Either way, the game master is given the freedom to use Divinity: Original Sin 2’s assets however they like. And for those thirsty for a new adventure, these campaigns can be shared online through Steam Workshop.

Matt Mercer (dungeon master of Critical Role and voice of Overwatch’s McCree) will be the game master in a custom adventure livestreamed today at 7 PM EST. He will be joined by streamers Jesse Cox, Dodger, Strippin, and Bikeman. Tune in to see Divinity: Original Sin 2’s Game Master mode in action!
