Pixels, corridors, magic, and gore.
90’s-style FPSes are making a strong comeback, with several great-looking projects in the works such as Strafe and Dusk, not to mention last year’s superb Wolfenstein 3D-inspired Intrude. Joining the ever-growing list is an upcoming game named Project Warlock, and so far it looks set to be an excellent low-fi treat.
Project Warlock has players controlling a powerful mage who is on a mission to purify the world of all evil through sorcerous means, though he’s not above using traditional weapons to get the job done. It’s great to have a magical-themed FPS, which have been relatively few and far between aside from the Heretic and Hexen games. Project Warlock also draws inspiration from other games of the 90’s FPS roster, such as Doom, Quake, and a personal favorite, Blood. Additionally, it’ll also feature a leveling system and some roguelike mechanics, meaning this is definitely one to keep an eye on.
The game is currently waiting to be Greenlit. Pop on over and see what you can do to ensure it sees the light of day. Have a gander at the trailer below to get your retro sensibilities drooling.
