Introducing the new Salmon Run mode and an amiibo trio!
That’s right, Splatoon fans: the upcoming Switch sequel will launch this July 21st, with three new amiibo releasing on the same date! While the previous game’s amiibo will be compatible as well, these new figures grant special limited gear when tapped onto your Switch. In addition, they spawn their respective characters as friends within Splatoon 2 and be available for photoshoots, as well as remembering your favorite weapons/gears/option settings. (Perfect for Turf Wars at your friend’s house!) You can see the amiibo for yourself below.
As revealed in the today’s Nintendo Direct showing (which you can watch below), a new game mode was also revealed for Splatoon 2 called Salmon Run. A 4-player co-op defense game, the Inklings battle mysterious new creatures called Salmonoids, who are potentially even more dangerous than last time’s Octarian threat. (Who, by the way, are apparently still wreaking havoc) Framed as something of a “part-time job,” these Salmonoids are splatted for the purpose of collecting Power Eggs and Golden Eggs, which serve a currently unknown purpose. Naturally, this mode will be playable online.
