SEGA today announced that Yakuza Kiwami will be releasing for the PlayStation 4 in North America and Europe on August 29.
For those who haven’t been following the title, Yakuza Kiwami is a fully remastered version of the series 2005 PlayStation 2 debut. The game features all-new recreated visuals and fully re-recorded Japanese audio by the original voice actors. Additionally, this definitive version of the original game also includes the addition of new distractions to become immersed in, and ~30 minutes of new cutscenes to flesh out the story.
To celebrate the occasion, SEGA has released a story trailer for Yakuza Kiwami. Check it out below:
The game will be available both physically and digitally for $29.99. Pre-orders and first-run copies of the physical release will come packaged in a special SteelBook case. You can take a look what’s included in the lovely glamour shot below:
In case you missed out on the original when it released in 2005, here’s a rundown of the game’s story courtesy of SEGA:
“Yakuza – the game begins with series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu getting sent to prison for the murder of his family patriarch (which he didn’t commit). To make matters worse, during the 10 years of his imprisonment, not only does Kiryu’s clan expel him from the yakuza, but ¥10 billion (~$100 million) goes missing from the clan treasury. Worse yet, Kiryu’s childhood sweetheart is also nowhere to be found, and with the entirety of the Japanese underworld on the hunt for the missing cash, Kiryu is all but lost until he finds the orphan girl Haruka, searching for her aunt who shares the same name as Kiryu’s missing love. What follows from there is a web of betrayal, underworld politics, and redemption as nothing will stop Kiryu from regaining his honor.”
