Starcraft: Remastered Updates the Genre Defining Title
The powerhouse developer announced Starcraft: Remastered, featuring 4k resolution and more, will be released this summer with Brood War included.
Though the game is receiving a modern polish and enhanced features, the classic gameplay that took the eSports world by storm will be preserved.
“StarCraft is a pure distillation of Blizzard’s DNA—its story, its balance, and all the little details reflect our long-running commitment to epic entertainment, and it’s been a staple in competitive gaming and esports for almost 20 years,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “With StarCraft: Remastered, we’re modernizing the original game’s visuals, audio, and online support to ensure that players can enjoy StarCraft for another 20 years and beyond.”
In addition to upgraded graphics and support for Ultra Hi-Def 4k resolutions, the company has added a grocery list of enhancements
- New illustrations to enhance storytelling in the StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War campaign missions
- Advanced matchmaking
- Full connectivity to Blizzard’s gaming network for social features and updates
- Cloud saving for campaign progress, custom maps, replays, and keybindings
- Support for eight new languages in addition to the original five
Starcraft: Remastered is in development for Mac and Windows systems. The final price for the updated version has yet to be determined. In anticipation of the summer release, Blizzard will be deploying patch 1.18 to Starcraft: Brood War later this week. The patch will include bug fixes, as well as many of the features the remastered addition will receive including observer mode, anti-cheat improvements, and better compatibility with Windows 7, 8, and 10.
Starcraft Anthology, which includes Starcraft and Brood War, will be free to play after the update is live.
