Who knew empty Switch stock could help another console?
Finding yourself the odd man out by playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U instead of the shiny new Nintendo Switch? Turns out you’re not alone; according to GameStop senior director Eric Bright, that so many Switch units are sold out are actually driving attention to its predecessor, as Wii U copies of Breath of the Wild are being sold with “a lot” of pre-owned Wii U consoles. Crazy!
As unsold Wii U units were recalled from retailers over the past several months, it’s great to hear GameStop can make the most of used sales, especially in the face of plummeting shares. Can the current success of Switch pull GameStop out of its slump? Not if the looming threat of online retailers has anything to say about it, but hopefully there’s space for both in the future!
Regardless, Breath of the Wild has been quite kind to GameStop and vice-versa, with the game’s Switch attach-rate being almost 1:1 for the retailer and Mr. Bright joining the chorus of singing its praises.
