New Amiibo Listings Point Towards Smash Switch Port

Furthermore, is there one more combatant arriving?

Fans have long speculated the amiibo figures for Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta–the last three DLC characters for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U–have been held off to accompany a Switch port of 2014’s Nintendo crossover fighter. As all three fighters were released over a year ago, it’s a theory with logical merit; in fact, it may already be bearing fruit. Nintendo’s CPSIA Certificates of Compliance page recently listed four new untitled amiibo, and eagle-eyed readers have deduced these belong to the Smash amiibo family.

But how do they know for sure? Well, take a look at their certificates: did you notice how they all feature “AA” in their item number? Each amiibo brand is divided into their respective code, such as “AK” for Zelda and “AJ” for Animal Crossing, and “AA” is Smash‘s. Since all four new listings feature “AA,” it looks like we’ll be receiving four more Smash amiibo figures!

Wait, four? Weren’t there three fighters left? That’s right, it looks like we’ll receive one new fighter, and since the DLC period for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U ended, it only makes sense we will indeed see a Switch port down the road. In that case, who’s the remaining combatant? Is it the dearly departed Ice Climbers? The up-and-coming Inklings? Or will Solid Snake himself grace us again with his presence?

Regardless, we’ll keep you updated as this develops. Fingers crossed for an E3 showing!
