The Velvet Room Returns In New ‘Persona 5’ Trailer

Heads will roll and weaknesses will be exploited in Persona 5’s Velvet Rooms.

Persona 5

Prepare to say hello to Igor once again. Velvet Room, those iconic safe havens for heroes in the Persona series that help players reach their full potential, return to lend their vital services to Persona 5’s Phantom Thieves. The latest trailer from ATLUS offers a look at the game mechanics behind the Velvet Room, which is a bit more darker than the serene setting players came to know in previous game in the long-running RPG franchise.

For starters, advanced demon fusions (fusions that require the souls of three or more demons) are now a pretty gruesome spectacle. Rather than merge in a pretty show of glowing particle effects, the Personas you fuse are sacrificed by Velvet Room Wardens Caroline and Justine, which ends with the demons being beheaded by a guillotine. Additionally,  you can strengthen a persona by sacrificing (hanging) another one to it, as well as put personas in lockdown so they can learn to take less damage from their weakness (how sadistic!). IF that wasn’t enough, you can even “transform” them through the loving use of an electric chair to morph them into a useful item/piece of equipment.

Persona 5 also finally makes use of network functionality, allowing players to fuse their personas with a random online player’s registry of creatures.

Check out the latest trailer offering a look at Persona 5’s Velvet Rooms below:

Persona 5 will release on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on April 4, 2017. The game will be available in both Standard Edition ($49.99 on PS4, and $39.99 on PS3). So, what do you think of the more savage system of persona fusions this time around? One thing’s for sure – it’s a far cry from the cozy confines of Igor’s posh limousine. Be sure to let us know in the comments section.
