Bethesda Dev Talks Upcoming Projects

2017 is shaping up to be a big year for Bethesda and its upcoming projects

Bethesda, the studio behind titles like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4 has always been full of ambition, and it looks like 2017 may be the company’s most ambitious year yet. With seven major projects in the works, including Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch and Fallout 4 VR, fans of the company have a lot to look forward to, although there is still plenty that we don’t know. Thanks to a recent interview conducted by Glixel with Bethesda director Todd Howard, however, we can finally learn a little more… but only a little.

Howard confirmed in the interview that Bethesda that it had plans for seven upcoming projects, at least three of which are in development right now – a mobile game, and two more traditionally Bethesda games.

“We’ve got a good number of projects on the go,” Howard said. “We’re bigger now and we do want to be putting out more stuff. We have two larger projects that are more classically the scale of what we do, but even bigger. We overlap the projects so we’re working on them at the same time, but they’re staggered,” he said. “I can’t talk a lot about them, but I can say that they’re bigger than anything we’ve ever done. They’re a bit different, but definitely in the wheelhouse that people are used to from us.”

Bethesda’s upcoming mobile game will be a sequel to their prior mobile title, Fallout Shelter. Howard noted that the game will be styled differently.

“It was a huge surprise to us,” Howard said about Fallout Shelter. “Particularly how successful it was. We’ve got – what – 75 million players now? The one takeaway was that the game is somewhat unique, so for the thing we’re doing next we wanted to continue to do that. We need to not look too hard at what’s working well for other people. The game we’re doing is a very different style game, unique in the space. There isn’t something else we’re looking at for style.”

No further information is known at this time about any of Bethesda’s upcoming projects, but stay tuned for more as it arrives!

Starting out with nothing more than a Game Boy and a copy of Donkey Kong Land, Kenny has happily been gaming for almost his entire life. Easily-excitable and a bit on the chatty side, Kenny has always been eager to share gaming-related thoughts, opinions, and news with others and has been doing so on Hey Poor Player since 2014 and has previously worked with both PKMNcast and SCATcast. Although his taste in gaming spreads across a wide number of companies and consoles, Kenny holds a particular fondness for Nintendo handheld consoles. He is also very proud of his amiibo collection.
