ZODIAC: Final Fantasy Tactics Remixed breathes new life into the classic PS One game’s soundtrack
Materia Collective, the label behind such albums as MATERIA: Final Fantasy VII Remixed, and Straight From the Underground, has finally released their latest project – ZODIAC: Final Fantasy Tactics Remixed.
ZODIAC, as the name may imply, is dedicated to the 1997 PlayStation classic Final Fantasy Tactics and spans an impressive 63 songs, containing within it over four hours of Tactics-inspired musical arrangements. The album features the combined efforts of over 100 different musical artists – including John Robert Matz, Dale North, Doug Perry, Annie Rosen, Sean Schafianski, Laura Intravia, Jack Menhorn, and Amanda Lepre – and features covers that cross through a variety of genres – from orchestral and rock, all the way to swing jazz and tango.
“The Final Fantasy Tactics soundtrack was darker and more atmospheric than other Final Fantasy soundtracks,” project producer Stephern Robert Froeber said. “in some ways, that makes doing straight covers of the songs tricky, so it has been really amazing to hear the interpretations that arrangers have given each piece. Especially for the pieces where the original had an organic, open ended structure, it has been really cool to hear what arrangers have done.”
ZODIAC: Final Fantasy Tactics Remixed is available now, and can be purchased on iTunes and Spotify.
