Get the new year started right by checking out Steam’s best sellers of 2016
Greetings to our readers! All of us from Hey Poor Player wish you a happy new year filled with love, prosperity, and of course, lots and lots of game time. As it happens, if you take a gander over at Steam’s main store page, you may get just that for 2017.
Valve has announced the top-earning titles of the dark year that was 2016, and as an extension of their winter sale, they’ve discounted the vast majority of games on the list. It’s significant, because this allows us some insight to just well certain titles are doing on Valve’s venerable platform, with some definite eyebrow-raising surprises.
There are a few givens on the list. XCOM 2, Civilization VI, and Dark Souls III all hover near the top, with Doom and Rise Of The Tomb Raider trailing not far behind. Regarding the surprises, No Man’s Sky was among the top-sellers despite the controversy surrounding its release and the calls for refunds. Many older classics are still selling strong, such as Kerbal Space Program and The Sims 3. As for the assorted free games on offer, they continue to rake in considerable profit for the company, such as Dota 2 and of course Team Fortress 2. It’s interesting to note how those games feature on the list while many of Valve’s commercial offerings do not; I am of course talking about the Left 4 Dead series and the Half-Life games. Either way, there’s a lot on offer with some very sweet discounts, many 50% off and more.
