Atlus forms new internal studio to create brand-new fantasy role-playing game IP.
While Persona 5 may be the first RPG that comes to mind when you think of Atlus these days, it seems the fifth entry in their flagship series is not the only trick the has up their sleeves.
Our friends at Persona Central have reported that Atlus has announced the formation of a new internal studio called “Studio Zero”. This new team will be working on a brand-new fantasy role-playing game IP that will be unveiled tomorrow, December 23rd through streaming video service NicoNico, as well as on Atlus’ official Fresh channel.
In a statement about the game on its newly launched site, producer and game director Katsura Hashino remarked about the title and the formation of Studio Zero saying:
“25 years ago, the Atlus RPG uttered its first cry. Speaking of RPGs in those days, the stories in so-called “fantasy” worlds were mainstream. The Shin Megami Tensei series was released as an “opposition” to such a “common” world view, and the Persona series was released as its spin-off. Both series, even today in their latest entries, have always been made with the concept that it will be a counter to the times. And now, in addition to continuing the titles within those series, what will our approach to a new RPG be? That is, to challenge the norms of the genre gamers have been consuming for decades. The challenge is about to begin. We would be happy if you would stand by for the moment we began from zero and the moment we began our challenge from zero.”
Even though we here at Hey Poor Player are longtime fans of the Shin Megami Tensei games and their numerous offshoots, we have to admit we’re pretty excited to see what Atlus has in store with this new project. If the concept art above is any indication, we can at least count on it being one lovely game to look at.
Stay tuned for more details on Atlus and Studio Zero’s upcoming fantasy RPG as they become available.
