4. Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams
Released as a stand-alone promotion in the holiday season of 1996, Christmas NiGHTS into Dreams is basically a demo with some pretty interesting content. If played from November to January, you can expect the stage to take on a more winter-y theme, complete with Christmas trees and lights and an instrumental rendition of Jingle Bells, among other tracks. And although the level is the same as Spring Valley from the original game, players will be delighted at the ability to conquer the stage as Elliot, featuring his own unique path. And if that’s not enough, you’ll also get a chance to play as none other than Sonic the Hedgehog and battle Dr. Eggman in a reskinned version of the battle against Puffy.
3. Viscera Cleanup Detail: Santa’s Rampage
The original Viscera Cleanup Detail is loads of tongue-in-cheek fun, placing players in the boots of a janitor who has to clean up the mess left behind by an FPS hero. This stand-alone expansion features a single level, Santa’s Workshop, after he snapped and killed his elf staff with a double-barrel shotgun. The bright and colorful look makes a great juxtaposition to the dark humor, and it’s genuinely challenging to play. The good news is that Santa’s Rampage is included free of charge for anybody who bought the base game. Now is that just a fine example of the Christmas spirit or what?
