Marvel vs. Capcom isn’t the only franchise coming back…
As fighting game fans rejoice in the advent of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, it would appear the Marvel/Capcom crossover is the first of many returning Capcom franchises. According to a press release on the developer’s investor relations site, Capcom is concentrating on reviving dormant IPs; in other words, game franchises that haven’t seen new entries in some time. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, announced five years after the previous Marvel vs. Capcom’s release, is set to be the first of these games. A good choice, as the crossover series features characters famous and obscure, but what could possibly follow?
Well…the press release doesn’t give any hints, but fans are already abuzz with possibilities. It’s been forever since the likes of Rival Schools, Breath of Fire and Dino Crisis graced store shelves, and the ill-fated attempts to revive Darkstalkers and Mega Man Legends still sting. But could could their existence generate revenue in today’s gaming climate? Only time will tell, but regardless, it’s exciting to hear Capcom planning to give their previous classics a second chance.
