Tipster Reports The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild To Miss Switch’s Launch

Report indicates The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s localisation to continue through December, full release not expected until 4-6 months later.

Those who’ve been waiting with bated breath to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch when it releases next March may want to exhale. In what could prove to be a serious setback for Nintendo’s new system, Eurogamer reports that the long-awaited title, which was thought to be releasing alongside the Switch, will be absent from the console’s launch lineup.

Last night, Nintendo tipster with a proven track record, Emily Rogers, reported that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s localization is scheduled to continue through the end of December. After that, Nintendo will need to spend another four to six months handling quality assurance before the title is ready to be released on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. This could mean the game’s launch will likely miss the console/handheld hybrid’s March launch, likely hitting retail in late spring or early summer 2017.

It’s important to note that Nintendo never explicitly confirmed the game would release alongside the Switch, but it was widely believed that the game’s release slipped from this year to March 2017 to supplement the launch of Nintendo’s new hardware.

You can read Emily Rogers’ full report here.

While this news is certainly disappointing, we’re hoping that the finished product is up to the high standard of previous entries in the long-running adventure series. If Nintendo drops the ball with Breath of the Wild, it could spell big problems for the one-time hardware juggernaut.

So, do you plan on picking up The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when it releases on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch next year? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
