Young Justice Season 3 Is Official

Fans of the former cancelled series rejoice

The cancellation of animated DC show Young Justice left a very sour taste in the mouths of fans, especially since it ended on a whammy of a cliffhanger. Since then, there has been a huge demand for the series to return and, only yesterday, was it confirmed that those demands have been answered.

While there’s very little info to go on (all we have is the above image), Warner Bros. Animation has stated that production has begun and promises that Season 3 will feature  “new twists, turns and dangerous new threats for the team, but most importantly, the opportunity for fans to finally continue the adventures of some of their favorite Super Heroes.”

“The affection that fans have had for Young Justice, and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us,” said Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, “We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series.”

It’s also been confirmed that the show’s original producers, Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman (who between them have worked on the likes of Batman: Under the Red Hood and The Spectacular Spider-Man) will be returning to work on the new season.

For those unfamiliar with Young Justice, the show first aired in 2011 on Cartoon Network and centered around the younger DC superheroes, like Robin, Kid Flash and Aqualad, as they formed their own team to help protect the world from diabolical supervillains, whilst under the watchful eye of the Justice League. It became immensely popular thanks to its well-written characters and mature storytelling and ran for two seasons, but was ultimately cancelled in 2013. Weisman would later confirm that this was mostly due to poor sales of tie-in toys.

Between the amount of online support the series has since received (with even Weisman campaigning for its return) and its availability on Netflix bringing in even more viewers, it’s no wonder that the series has managed to be revived. But what sort of adventures are in store for our young heroes? What new friends and foes will make an appearance? And, most importantly, when can we watch it?
