New Sega Mega Drive Unveiled!

TecToy announce a new version of Sega’s best selling 16-bit console!

If, like me, you have been left amazingly disappointed by the range of Mega Drive and Genesis plug and play consoles by AtGames then you are going to be super excited about this announcement. Because there is a new one coming from Brazilian company TecToy that promises to be so accurate you won’t be able to tell it apart from an original console. For those that don’t know, TecToy are the official licensees of the Sega brand in South America and have been selling their own version of the both the Master System and Mega Drive since the eighties and actually never stopped!

In recent years they have been selling their own plug and play Sega machines that have mostly been using an emulation based set-up much like the AtGames consoles, although of much higher quality in general. Well now they are returning to their roots somewhat by producing a new machine that not only looks identical to an original model 1 Mega Drive but also works like one too! This new machine has a custom chip set that features components which are very similar to the ones originally used by Sega. It’s been designed specifically to work exactly the same as the original best selling 16-bit console with no corners being cut in the authenticity stakes.

The new TecToy Mega Drive comes bundled with an original 3-button controller, 22 built in games (see below), traditional cartridge slot and even an SD card reader so you can add your own ROMs! The only slight disappointment is that there is no HDMI output, something that really should be there in this day and age but hopefully this will be added in the future. Still this is a minor flaw in a product that appears to ooze with quality and will provide an all-accurate experience of one of the greatest consoles ever made. And the price? It will retail for the equivalent of just under $125, which is pretty good value for what’s on offer. It can be pre-ordered now from the official TecToy website, but while you wait take a look at this great list of classic games and technical specifications.
