Shovel Knight’s Iconic Soundtrack Is Going Vinyl

Pre-orders open for Jake “virt” Kaufman’s Shovel Knight soundtrack on CD & vinyl today

Shovel Knight Vinyl

One of the best chip-tune soundtracks in recent memory has finally made its way to wax. Brave Wave Productions today Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack, which will be made available in both limited edition CD and vinyl formats.

Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack is the second release in Big Wave Productions’ Generation Series, which kicked off back in 2015 with the release of the Street Fighter II The Definitive Soundtrack. The album is adorned with art by Mega Man and Pokémon illustrator Hitoshi Ariga, and includes composer commentary from Jake “virt” Kaufman and Manami Matsumae, and, of course, the soundtrack from Yacht Club Games’ stellar side-scroller itself. That said, this is looking like a pretty nice package for both vinyl collectors and chip-tune enthusiasts.

Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack is currently available for pre-order on Bandcamp, and you can pre-order the double-LP Blue Vinyl Set on Big Wax.

“We’ve been working on a number of retro game soundtracks since the release of our Street Fighter II restoration,” notes Mohammed Taher, Creative Director at Brave Wave Productions, “But it was important for us to follow up that iconic soundtrack with a more contemporary one. Our intent is to emphasize the importance of promoting quality game music, and not just retro game music. Twenty years from now, we will look back and wonder how Jake Kaufman was able to flex the ancient VRC6 chip to its furthest limit.”

So, will you be adding the Shovel Knight The Definitive Soundtrack to your collection? Be sure to sound off in the comments section below and let us know.
