Jessica Jones Season Two News!

Jessica Jones Season Two To Feature Only Female Directors

Jessica Jones

With all of the new Marvel shows rapidly encroaching for our viewing pleasure it’s hard to think beyond everything debuting in 2017, but Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg just put the hard hitting PI back on the map with a loose air date of 2018! Not only that, but the new show promises a complete female director team for the duration of the season.

This is pretty exciting since the only comic book superhero anything to be directed by a woman prior to Jessica Jones has been the Punisher: War Zone movie (and I will forever love Lexi Alexander for her portrayal of Frank Castle). The show’s first season featured only three female directors up until this point: S.J. Clarkson, Rosemary Rodriguez, and Uta Briesewitz.

That’s not all we’re getting for Jessica Jones. Rosenberg, who has done work on the Dexter series prior, said that one pivotal thing she has learned is that you want the character to grow, but never to heal. So it seems that despite the events at the end of Jessica Jones’ pilot season, we’re still going to have to watch as she deals with the traumas of her past. How, or if this will tie into her new villain is yet to be determined. Ritter herself has stated that the show will explore the elements behind severe PTSD even deeper.

Her bond with her adopted sister Trish Walker is also expected to deepen, making Marvel fans wonder if we’re ever going to see Jones’ BFF become the legendary Hellcat in days to come since it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had Jessica share her screen time with another up and coming Marvel Netflix legend.

Season two is expected to have thirteen episodes and begin shooting sometime next year after The Defenders airs. Jessica Jones Season One can be viewed in its entirety on the Netflix Streaming and DVD services.
