The wait is finally over: what was codenamed NX has been officially unveiled as the Nintendo Switch! The full trailer is available below:
As implied by long-standing rumors, the Switch will be a hybrid console that you can play at home and take on the go. The screen-based console rests in a docking station at home, and instantly transitions to handheld mode when removed. Attached on both sides of the console are Joy-Con controllers, which can be attached to a grip accessory. For those looking for a more traditional experience, an optional Nintendo Switch Pro Controller will be available.
Games will be stored on card cartridges ala 3DS. Alongside the previously confirmed Zelda: Breath of the Wild, games announced for NX include:
-An unnamed 3D Mario game.
–Mario Kart, which seems to be an enhanced version of Mario Kart 8. King Boo will also be playable.
–Splatoon. It’s unknown if it’s a sequel or port, but the Inklings sport new hairstyles and pants.
–The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Nvidia has revealed their technology will be powering Switch. The system is composed of a NVIDIA GPU, GeForce graphics cards, a brand-new API (called NVN), hardware-accelerated video playback, and a custom Tegra chipset.
Below is a list of third-party partners for Switch, which includes Bethesda, Sega, Konami, Capcom, Square Enix, Platinum Games, Bandai Namco, and From Software. Aside from Skyrim, NBA and Dragon Quest, what they will contribute to Switch remains unknown.
