3DS News Aplenty!
Another season, another new Nintendo Direct comes our way, promising new information about the games that the Big N knows fans want. Time time around, we were promised 3DS exclusivity, so those clamoring for the NX announcement will have to wait for another day. With that out of the way, let’s see what Nintendo had in store for its fans. A note: this news blast is categorized by series, and not necessarily first to last from the direct itself.
First comes a trailer for Pokemon Sun and Moon, giving most of the information that we have recieved from E3 of this year, though Alola Rattata has been shown as a Dark/Normal type due to being hunted by the Yungoos species. Munchlax has an exclusive item that allows it to have a special Z-move that can only be gotten for a limited time.
Then, Mario Maker for 3DS was announced. While some levels from the Wii U version will not be able to be used in 3DS, Nintendo promises that it will have just as much customization as its older brother. Mario Maker 3DS will be coming out December 22. Another game, originally shown at last year’s E3, is Mario Party Star Rush, this time with new footage and some explanation on how the main single player takes place. With 7 different modes in the game, this Mario Party game looks to try to gain fans’ trust after the last few disappointing games. Mario Party: Star Rush is coming out on November 4. Mario Sports: Super Stars, the next game that features classic Mario characters playing real world sports was announced today. The sports in the game are soccer baseball, tennis, golf, and new to the franchise, horse racing. Nintendo is promising the game being more than just a mini-game extravaganza. For example, soccer is shown off to be a full-on 11 vs 11 experience. Online is available for the game as well. Look out for it Spring 2017.
Animal Crossing New Leaf is getting a free update, with more amiibo and cards this holiday season, though nothing else was shown besides a new Direct showing it off in the fall. Mii plaza is also getting an update, which will streamline the game, and promises to make the game faster and have more amiibo be able to meet at once. A slot car, stock, food, treasure hunting, and ninja games will be coming soon, today in fact!
Picross 3D Round Two was shown off, that allows amiibo support and more color options. Its available today, with a free demo for those that want to try it before buying. A new game called Tank Troopers was shown off as well. Its a tank battling game, with special moves that each person running the can can use, such as a freezing attack. Tank Troopers will be releasing in the winter.
A brief history of the Zelda franchise was shown, followed by some new information. New Zelda amiibo will be coming out soon and will have The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wilds functionality. Dark Horse Comics will be publishing three new Zelda themed books this year, with The Legend of Zelda: Art and Artifacts shown off. If you have a WiiU, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is available on the eShop today. Hyrule Warriors 3DS DLC Pack 3 was announced, with Wind Waker Link getting the Sand Rod as a weapon, Toon Zelda, from The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks being a playable character. She uses her Phantom Suit to do massive damage. It is available for download today.
If you are a fan of indie games, you are in luck! Indie games are having a sale on Nintendo platforms in September, with each week having a different game going on sale. Axiom Verge is the first such game, and it starts now.
The next Ace Attorney was shown off, with new investigations and will have both Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice being playable in different situations. Look forward to Phoenix Wright: Spirit of Justice coming exclusively on the 3DS eShop on September 8.
Dragon Quest 8 is promised to come out in 2017, though Dragon Quest 7, remade from the ground up, will be coming much sooner. Online distributions will have players getting more monsters and items to use. If you pre-purchase the game on the eShop before it comes out on Sept 16 will net you a new 3DS background.
Disney Magical World 2 shown off, with in-game outfits available for those that preorder the game. A trailer was shown off as well, with many classic Disney figures coming along on your adventure. Disney themes coming out on the system as well. Sonic Boom: Fire and Ice was shown off, with a different story than that of the TV show. It was given a Sept 27 release date, and if you get a physical copy, you get a free episode of said TV show on DVD.
Yarn Yoshi for 3DS was announced with new features and every stage from the Wii U version. A new feature involving the yarn pooch, Poochy was shown off, that looks like a runner game. The adorable dog, Poochy, is also getting a yarn amiibo, and both the game and the amiibo will be releasing on Feb 3 2017.
Yokai Watch: Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls, is coming out, with duo versions not unlike Pokemon. The battle mechanics are more fleshed out, and different yokai are in different versions, wanting fans to buy buy buy, though you can trade medals to get those extra yokai. There will be a demo for the next Yokai Watch game coming in the middle of this month.
Forever Oasis, the 3DS rpg that was shown off last E3 was given more information. You travel a vast desert, trying to make your home into a lovely oasis. You must traverse a dark desert, defeating foes and concuring dungeons to get items to make your home more beautiful. Switching between allies is necessary to get everything in the game.
Finally, Pikmin (its a working title as of right now) is shown off, getting itself an all-new 2-dimentional look. Tapping the touch screen allows you to pick and throw the plant creatures like in the console games, and the three original Pikmin are proven to be playable. Designed with action in mind rather than the straight exploring in previous titles. It has no official release date, though its said to come out in 2017.
Quite a lot of games were featured in this Direct, with some fasinating surprises! Who would have thought that Pikmin coming on 3DS would be a side-scroller instead of the strategy game that fans know and love? Will you be getting any of these fantastic new games?
